NEW YEAR, NEW ROLE?

Would any parent or carer be up for a new challenge in 2023.  We currently have two vacancies for a parent governor to join our friendly team of 8 governors.  The governing body is made up of representatives from staff, the community, LA and parent governors (3 places).

Currently, Sarah Thornton, mom to Adam in Year 10, is the only parent representative on the governing body.  Sarah has kindly put into words her thoughts on being a parent governor:

  • Helping to make a different to your child’s education and the community as a whole.
  • A better understanding of how the school is run.
  • Having a voice with regards to policy decision making.
  • Being more involved in school activities.
  • Meeting new people.
  • Having a sense of giving back to the school community.

I am therefore appealing to any parent or carer to consider these two opportunities and become more involved with your child’s school – no specialist knowledge is needed, just your time and commitment to support the school.

If you would like to have an informal chat with either myself or Sarah about what the role entails, please do not hesitate to get in touch or alternatively contact the Clerk to the Governors, Dawn Canham dcanham@elmwood.walsall.sch.uk who will also gladly help.

Many thanks in advance for your support.
